Picture this, you just got an awesome business idea that could take your company to the next level or create another income stream. Chances are the biggest obstacle holding you back is figuring out how to follow through on your idea and actually take the steps to get it done. As a planner turning ideas into reality is something that comes very naturally to me, so here is my 4 step formula to turn any business idea into an easy to follow action plan.
Step 1 Idea and Brainstorm
Write down your idea and use this as a brainstorming time. Write out anything that you can think of that will help you develop and implement your business idea. So for example say your idea was to start a blog. Write blog at the top of the page and list things like editorial calendar, website blog set up, sidebar social media links, and reaching target market.
Step 2 Delegate
Now go through your list and figure out what you will do and what you will delegate to someone else, whether you are delegating to use someones expertise or save you time. Figure out any obstacles you may face and how you’ll deal with them. This may include motivation as an obstacle so it’s a good idea to put some motivators in place to keep you on track. A great example is to consider what you may buy with the extra income and place a picture of it front and center. Another way to beat the ‘blahs’ after an idea has lost it’s excitement is to get an accountability partner – someone who will check in with you to be sure you are still staying on track. This can be a friend or maybe another business person that you network with.
Step 3 Steps
Now that you have a good idea of what you need to do and what you need to delegate, list out the tasks in chronological order of when things need to get done. So to create a blog you may write:
- Determine what I want in a blog
- Decide on look of blog, find a theme I like
- Hire a WordPress designer and specify details of blog
- Develop 6 month editorial calendar
- Start to write blog posts
- Write blog post every Monday
Step 4 Schedule
This step is VERY important, it is where your idea starts to make it out to the real world. Schedule every single thing you can think of that you need to do in your calendar and prioritize it. Take the very first step within 24 hours to keep momentum going.
