Most business bloggers understand the value of guest blogging: get more people aware of your business and expertise as a starting point. Developing new relationships and partnerships as a bonus! Here is my seven step process to get your blog posts out into the world. I should also add that before you start to contact any bloggers, follow them on social media and show them a little bit of love.
Create a list of the top 25 blogs that you would like to be featured on and that cater to your audience.
Don’t limit yourself in this process, list the blogs that you really want to be featured on. As a side note a blog that strictly does not accept blog posts should not make it on your list. Generally if a blog has a ‘no guest blogging policy’ right on their site it will only piss them off if you send a pitch for a guest post, so skip those ones 🙂
The blogs on the list should have 3 things in common:
- They cater to your audience
- You can offer valuable content for their readers
- You can offer relevant content to their style of their blog
Create a unique never before published article. Make it valuable and entertaining, create a great headline. Then create a short description of your article for your pitch emails.
Create a bio. Create an author bio, a brief description of yourself and what you do. Include a link back to your site or to your opt-in page. Some bloggers will link back to your site and some not, so check for specific guidelines after your post has been accepted.
Write to blogger #1 to offer up your guest post. When formatting your pitch email keep these 4 things in mind:
- Be to the point
- Be confident in yourself, but don’t over inflate yourself
- Let them know how you will add value to their audience
- Your article title, and an extremely brief description of the article
Wait for a response, this is the least fun part of the process, eeek!
Wait a week then send a quick reminder email, often times things just get lost in the shuffle. If you still receive no response after another week (or if they were not interested) move on. Send your pitch email to blog #2 on your list. Continue the process until you find the blog you are meant to be guest posting on.
Once they accept the guest post, cater the article to their audience specifically. Take a look at what you have prepped and change up the language slightly or add a few lines to make it fit nicely in with their content. Then let it go and submit. Once the article is published show them a ton of social media love, and send traffic their way.
After your first article has gone out, write a new article and start the pitching process over again. Repeat and watch your tribe grow.
With that being said, I am opening up my blog and now accepting guest posts, if you have a great post that you want my readers to see, contact me here.
